A Virtual Bridge to Vital Services
Imagine
needing to find a health clinic, job training program, food stamps, child care
center or even a playground in a neighborhood near you, a relative, client
or parent. What would you do? Most people would start by flipping through the ‘blue
pages’ of the phone book. Connect211.org, a project of Delaware Valley
Association for the Education of Young Children (DVAEYC) and United Way of
Southeastern Pennsylvania, will make finding all of the relevant social services
in Southeastern Pennsylvania easy. ‘CONNECT211’ is an on-line,
Geographic Information System (GIS) application that allows users to search
a database of over 12,000 organizations and display and print maps with turn-by-turn
directions…it is a virtual bridge between people who need services the
agencies who provide them.
First Call for Help is where to turn for help
First Call for Help offers free, confidential information and referral services in the entire southeastern Pennsylvania region.
Sponsored by United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, United Way of Bucks County, the Philadelphia Council, AFL-CIO and the Tri-County Community Network, First Call operates three call centers serving the region.
Callers are assisted with general information and referral to hundreds of community agencies in the region. Examples of information that can be provided include: referral to financial assistance in emergency situations, information about domestic violence resources, referral to community organizations that host youth empowerment programs, referrals to free support services for single parents, and much more.
- First Call services for Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery Counties are available by calling 215-568-3750.
- For services in the tri-county area of Berks, Chester and Western Montgomery Counties, call 610-705-3301.
