Earned Income Tax Credit
Millions of tax credit dollars are not claimed by taxpayers each year. The Earned Income Tax Credit is one example of an unclaimed refund. By getting your taxes done for free at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site, tax preparers will help you file for any tax credit that you qualify for.
What is EITC?
The Earned Income Tax Credit is a refundable federal income tax credit available to low-income families. The EITC has been credited with lifting more children out of poverty than any other single program. Families use the EITC to pay for necessities, repair homes and vehicles, boost their earning power by obtaining additional education or training, and save for the future.
Who qualifies for the EITC?
Working people who meet certain income requirements and file a tax return.
This year under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, EITC eligibily has expanded. Married families with 3 or more kids are now eligible for EITC and will see an average gain of $1,075.
