Graduate! Philadelphia: Turning Unused Credits into College Degrees

Graduate! Philadelphia works on raising awareness of the issues and leading a multi-partner collaborative approach to solutions, policy and systems change, and innovative programs. It was created because today's economy demands well-educated workers practiced at complex and creative problem-solving.

Recently, Graduate! Philadelphia opened a College Access Center at the Gallery at Market East, on 9th and Market Streets in Philadelphia. The Center provides guidance and support for adults seeking to complete a college degree. Its services include: assisted college search, tuition guidance, Returning to Learning workshops, academic advising, college credit transfer assessment, advice on getting college credit for life learning, and peer mentoring. Graduate! Philadelphia also has an interactive website that provides many of the same services.

Graduate! Philadelphia is a managed through a partnership between United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board. Conceived by Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board Director Sallie Glickman and Graduate! Philadelphia director Hadass Sheffer, the new center is managed through a contract with the Philadelphia Education Fund.

Graduate! Philadelphia has unveiled an enhanced website. New features include a search tool of area colleges by major and vicinity. Partner colleges are highlighted and have additional, linked pages. The search returns information important to adults such as the availability of evening and weekend classes and advising hours, accelerated programs, and advisors specifically dedicated to adult students. The new site also offers a searchable calendar of events and links for adults seeking resources for getting back to college. More information will be added monthly. No other available online college searches are tailored to highlight such information – another first for Graduate! Philadelphia.
