Sharmain Matlock-Turner Named Citizen Volunteer of the Year United Way congratulates Sharmain Matlock-Turner, President and Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition on being named United Way’s Citizen Volunteer of the Year for 2008. |
Thank You to All of the Volunteers and Organizations who Helped to Make Days of Caring a Success.
With the help of over 7,000 volunteers, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania
kicked-off their 2008 campaign during the annual United Way Days of Caring.
Over the course of this two-day event, volunteers from area companies joined
forces with nonprofit agencies to complete 200 different service projects that
benefited communities in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties.
Thousands of United Way volunteers wearing LIVE UNITED t-shirts could be found working on projects such as making a fun and educational space for an after-school program, performing much needed maintenance on transitional housing for families, spending time with seniors, and making a community park a more beautiful and enjoyable place to visit.
“Everyday ordinary people are accomplishing extraordinary things by volunteering. You don’t have to have super-human talents to get involved in your community. All you need is the desire for change.” said Jill Michal, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
